Challenges Identified at the NYSUT Community College Conference, Nov 7-9, 2025

Seven of us attended the NYSUT Community College Conference in Saratoga Springs on Nov. 7-9, 2025: Thomas Bruckner, Ziaullah Khan Durrani, Secretary Suzanne Kaebnick, Vice President of Non-Classroom Faculty Virginia Sanchioli, Alex Sanchioli, PAC Co-Chair Caitlin Thurber, and NCCFT President David Stern. NCC Administration Stalls Promotions and Sabbaticals During Contract Negotiations

The Executive Committee of the NCCFT is disappointed to report that the College has declined to execute a side letter with the union (as they have done in the past) to grant promotions and sabbaticals while a new contract is being negotiated. NCCFT Files Appeal of Court Decision: We Will Continue to Fight for Student Services and Educational Quality

On September 5, 2025, we filed, with the assistance of our parent union NYSUT’s office of general counsel, an appeal with the Appellate Division, continuing our legal challenge against the college administration’s elimination of 15 department chairperson positions.  Our appeal challenges the college’s elimination of department chairpersons with specialized expertise in their fields who provided crucial academic leadership and student support. The case seeks to ensure that Nassau Community College lives up to its stated mission of providing quality education.
