There is too much at stake that directly affects our lives to be apathetic.  Vote!  Help NYSUT and NCCFT door knock and phone bank.  If you live in District 3, remind folks to vote!   Find your polling place and learn about early and absentee voting at: https://voterlookup.elections.ny.gov/  Early voting runs from Sat. Feb 3 to Sat. Feb 11.

Republican House Majority Whip Tom Emmer was the key speaker at Mazi Melesa Pilip’s Jan 27 rally. Pilip is expected to tow the party line, so the AFL-CIO’s 2022 voting record for Tom Emmer should be a good indication of how Pilip would vote. Emmer’s score for voting is a low 15%, voting against legislation for working people, such as:

* against the Omnibus Act of 2023, which included worker protection programs and a much needed increase in funding for the National Labor Relations Board

* against the VA Employee Fairness Act, to give Veterans who are federal employees bargaining rights

* against rail workers getting paid sick leave

* against the Inflation Reduction Act, which included lowering the cost of clean energy, building U.S. jobs in green technology, allowing Medicare to fight the high cost of drugs, and taxing the megarich and biggest corporations more.

Tom Suozzi’s AFL-CIO score for 2022 is 100%!!  Go here for the AFL-CIO’s voting record for Tom Suozzi.

  1. I am no longer a Nassau County resident, but I am interested that Tom Suozzi gets such a high union rating. When he was my Mayor in Glen Cove in the days when Nassau citizens were not thought capable of governing themselves, he was radically ANTI UNION! He told me, outside a supermarket at a rally there, that he “didn’t give a damn about unionized teachers or professors”! What happened? Did he get baptized in the Andrew Cuomo Memorial swimming pool and get Born Again as a supet-unionist?

  2. When Aaron Seligman (Our past President) and my dear friend passed away we held a memorial service for him. Tom Suozzi to his credit was there.

On a personal level I was sitting next to Helen Shuemaker our office manager at the time who was in tears. Tom Souzzi came over put his arm around her and comforted her. No press, no grandstanding, just kindness.

As regards to Barry’s comments, Tom’s voting record speaks for itself.
