Last night’s meeting of the Board of Trustees was not particularly eventful, though it was notable for the fact that a full complement of ten trustees were in attendance. (The student trustee, who was present during the executive session, did not attend the public forum because she needed to go home to study.) We also welcomed Wanda Jackson, our newest trustee. Perhaps the most significant business to be conducted was the Board’s vote to disband the presidential search committee and the announcement that they would constitute a new committee and start a new search as soon as possible. Both Kimberley Reiser and Frank Frisenda commented on this move during the public forum, and it is worth listening closely to what they had to say.
A lot is going on these days at Nassau Community College, including our own contract negotiations, the AFA’s as-yet-unresolved labor unrest, the fact that there will now be a new presidential search, that we are still without an academic vice president, and SUNY Seamless. It is more important than ever that you keep yourself as informed as possible about what is going on. Ask questions, talk to your department reps, get involved where you can.
